Desert, Mountain, Rain

The Bates Motel Take II
Welcome to Wells, Nevada
Picture - First day: Lunch 8/19/12 Welcome to day one of George and Jenson's Big Adventure. The biggest adventure I have had today is trying to figure out how to type in the blog post box using the IPad. The script is very small and I cannot figure out how to enlarge it. So, now everyone reading this (all 2 of you) knows that our day was pretty calm. Let me just start by explaining the purpose of the blog for any potential new readers. It is to act as a log/diary that George and I can read as we sit in our rockers talking about the good old days. Also, we can't remember from year to year where we went or stayed, so this acts as our memory. We got a nice early start this morning and stopped for a lovely breakfast at McDonald's in Truckee. Highway 80 in Nevada is not brilliant, but gliding through the miles of uninhabited terrain is restful. Unless you are me. My brain is on fire. For example, I have never seen this sign before: PRISON AREA HITCHHIKING PROHIBITED. Boy, I thought about that for a long time. Like, I wanted to stop and take a picture of the sign because I thought it was so funny, but....the speed limit was 75 mph and I didn't think it would be a popular idea. And then there's the desert. In many ways it is quite beautiful and romantic. It is also ugly and sporadically speckled with old trailers, trucks, cars, and other junk. Is it the ugliness that invites the junk? We did get rained on, but luck was with us and it was cold, wet, and quick. After lunch in Winnemucca we rode the final leg to Wells. We had to ride by the Sharon Motel before we could bring ourselves to check in. Really. $39 a night. We were afraid to go into our room. Turns out it isn't bad. Of course there is no hair blower so I will be riding with wet hair in the morning, but really, at this price I could buy one and leave it here. Well family and friends, I am exhausted, I don't feel well, and I smell like the road. I think it is time to say good night. I hope you will stay turned. It's bound to get more interesting....or I will have to get better at making up stories! Jenson & George

  1. I Googled the Sharon Motel. I mean, I had to, because, I mean, reallllly??? $39.00/night? First hit, and turns out there's a website called www.roadsidepeek.com and I admit I actually went to it (after I stopped giggling at the name). So it seems you two are in quite the hot spot, being all neon-ed and all, and pretty good on-line reviews as well! Yup, I'm impressed! On another note, please post a pic tomorrow after you get to where you are going so I can decide for myself which way is best to dry my hair in future (for the most volume, ya know)... the 'Born to be Wild' way, or my pathetic little 8 year old blow dryer way.
